The Fifth Parlour had the opportunity to meet breakthrough R&B sensation, Angela Vero from her time promoting her music in Singapore last week. Vero has just released her debut single Work It! We sat down with her and had the chance to learn what is coming in the months ahead for this bubbly lady.

Born and raised in Amsterdam, Netherlands, the 23-year-old is a jack-of-all-trades who can sing, act, model and is fluent in three languages. Her career started off during an impromptu meeting with an Indonesian in Amsterdam. The person was in search of new talent and had been working with musical extraordinaire, Yovie Widianto. She was later invited to be part his concert in 2013 titled Yovie and His Friends: Irreplaceable. This was her most memorable performance as she explained. It was her first performance in her native country and she felt welcomed even though it was a nerve-wrecking experience.

Angela briefly describes her debut single, Work It during our interview session. The highly energetic track enabled her to showcase her dancing abilities, a skill she says she would like to improve on as she develops her music career. The track can be described as experimental, with elements of EDM and R&B, the genre of music she was aiming for on her upcoming debut album. She wishes to inspire people through her music and be relatable to them in their own way.

Music is her main priority for now, along with other projects in the future. Angela Vero is slowly reinventing herself from her humble beginnings. She will be spending a month in Sweden to write, record and produce her album. It is her dream to collaborate with Korean girl group – BlackPink, rapper – Joe Flizzow from Malaysia and DJ – Dipha Barus from Indonesia.

She decided to move to Jakarta in 2014 and began learning Bahasa Indonesia. She then landed a movie role in an Indonesian film, Mantan Terindah, The Movie in the same year. She hopes to get be engaged in more theatrical projects in the future as well as performing on original soundtracks.

Angela Vero has many surprise collaborations with various Indonesian musicians, which will be released in the region, as well as, in the international market in the coming year so watch out for them!
