tvN Movies was buzzing on social media in late June as they invited local viewers to join their giveaway for the special screening of the South Korean movie, Decision to Leave. I was amongst the lucky winners and was delighted to be able to catch it at Suntec City Golden Village. The movie was selected for the Cannes Film Festival 2022 with the director, Park Chan-wook taking home the Best Director award.

The movie centered around the death of a man. Detective Hae-joon (Park Hae-il) met Seo-rae (Tang Wei), the wife of the man who was found dead at the mountain peak. Detective Hae-joon started to investigate the wife as he found her behaviour unusual. Instead of grieving, she was agitated upon knowing of her husband’s death. Hae-joon interrogated Seo-rae and observed her closely during stakeouts. Meanwhile, the relentless detective slowly developed an interest in her.

The film showcased various picturesque locations across the Korea peninsula. Diving into the romance and mystery of it all, you will be fully immersed in the investigation process. The point of view of the detective will keep you feeling flustered as you feel his “presence” while he goes about his daily routines. Watch the unlikely relationship between Seo-rae and Hae-joon unfold as it encompasses their decision to reunite or to part ways in the future.
