When someone asks you to try out a new pancake cafe, what you have in mind would be more geared towards sweet and syrup-y rather than savoury delights. The Pancake Place however, was a pleasant surprise to the palette. This is owed to the fact that the parent company is Royz Et Vous, who are known for their steaks, salad, and burgers.
We had the Salmon Royale, Ham and Cheese, Lemak Duck, Mango De Coco, and the crowd’s fave (well amongst my group of friends anyway), Grilled Tiger Prawn.
I came with low expectations and a pretty empty tummy. All the savoury pancakes caught me by surprise by how well it all goes with the pancakes, and best of all, it was so filling! It’s a complete meal in itself. There’s salad by the side, 3 decent sized pancakes, the meat of choice, and of course the dressing/sauce that comes with it.
Grilled Tiger Prawn was the winner amongst all. The prawns were succulent, and the white sauce that goes with it was spicy and creamy at the same time. It was not over-cloying nor was it overbearing. All the pancakes that came with the savoury dishes were soft, fluffy and just the right amount of sweetness.
However, all of us agreed that the Mango De Coco could have been better. The mangoes were sour, the whipped cream was a bit lacklustre, and the pancakes itself were a bit on the crumbly and dry side.
All in all, the cafe is worth a try. Did I mention that it is also very Instagram/TikTok worthy?
