Two weeks ago, The Fifth Parlour was at the first ever Celebfest 2016. We had the opportunity to meet and chat with a local designer who shared a few fashion tips for those who are still hunting down for the perfect outfit for the upcoming festive season.
Indra Murak graduated from the Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts (NAFA). He started developing his own designs four years ago in the hopes to clinch a career in the fashion local scene. He was a freelance stylist for various magazine editorial shoots and finally took the plunged and set up his business in designing wedding gowns in 2015.
Indra has a simple philosophy when it comes to fashion. He believes that every bride should have her own unique style and shine during their wedding day. Therefore, he prefers to sketch out his ideas and vision from scratch rather than the off-the-rack dresses at wedding boutiques. He also provides rental services especially for the groom. He conceptualize and produce traditional and modern Malay and Chinese wedding gowns. His clientele includes locals, expats and foreigners from as far the United kingdom.
As the Hari Raya is coming, we asked Indra what is the trend for this year. According to Indra, he noticed that Peplum dresses or tops is the in thing now because it compliments ones body. The shades for this season is nude colours. He shared an essential tip before purchasing the clothing. He stressed the importance of trying it so one is able to see if it compliments your shape and skin tone.
For Indra, he describes his collection in four words; simplicity, elegance, comfort and fashionable. For his Raya collection, it comes in five different designs with six pastel colours including pink, violet and orange. The dresses are made from pure cotton satin creating a natural shine. The intricate metal rivet beading technique on the dresses makes it unique. The collection has sizes from small to extra large and cost between $150-$180.
