It has been five years since American rock band Hoobastank last graced our shores, and the quartet were back in town last weekend for a one-night concert held at The Coliseum at the Hard Rock Hotel, Resorts World Sentosa.

When I heard about the news, I was ecstatic and couldn’t wait to get my tickets to see the band! Having missed their last concert here, I was most definitely looking forward to finally getting to see them live.

In the hour and a half or so, the band played an extensive list of songs from their various albums – Same Direction, My Turn, Out of Control and Crawling in the Dark, just to name a few.

Lead singer Doug Robb had an exceptionally great connection with the crowd, getting everyone hyped and rocking out to everyone one of the songs. At one point he even accepted a fan’s letter, saying that he would consider reading it before changing his mind, jokingly mentioning that there might be some ‘secrets’ in it.

Of course, the highlight of the night would have to be the moment that the band played their most well-known hit and crowd favourite, The Reason (this year marks 10 years since its release). Cheers erupted through the crowd as the first few notes of the familiar tune came through the speakers. A sea of phones and cameras surfaced as everyone scrambled to make a keepsake of the moment.

It was certainly a night to remember and I for one can’t wait till the band is back, hopefully with some newer material the next time around!
