Inspired from the native American culture, the name of the band Buffalo Sunn was formed with the help of buffalo and the sun too. Comprising of four Paxton brothers, Daniel, Neil, Conor and Ruairi alongside with Donagh O’Brien and Patrick McHugh, Buffalo Sunn is an indie rock band from Dublin.
Formerly known as Sweet Jane, the band describes their music as music from the West Coast. When you listen to their songs, you can imagine buffaloes roaming around the outskirts. When I first listened to their set during Music Matters, it reminded me of the bands way back from the 60s and 70s such as the The Beatles and The Who. Doesn’t Neil reminds you of someone from The Beatles?
Speaking of music, the band’s debut album, By the Ocean, By the Sea, will be out in September. The inspiration behind the album comes from nature and books. Not only that, since they are a huge fan of music and they do collect records, part of their inspirations comes from there too. Usually in an album, we tend to skip some songs but with this debut album, you might not be skipping any songs. They carefully selected the best songs in the album so that there is a flow. If that is not enough to convince you, the album is produced by legendary Irish producer, Pat McCarthy, who has worked with The Waterboys, REM, U2 and the list goes on.
Other than digging some information about their debut album, we tried to dig secrets within the band. Having four brothers in the band has its advantages and disadvantages thus, we asked if there were any big fights amongst the brothers. Unfortunately, their fight only lasted for eight minutes and then everything is back to normal. Don’t get me wrong, I am not sad that they don’t fight but I wish we could have uncovered some dirty little secret about the band.
Did you know that one of the band members is a psychiatric nurse?
