It’s finally the week of one of the biggest music festival in Singapore – Music Matters 2014 and following the success of the past consecutive two years of “K-Pop Night Out at Music Matters”, K-Pop Night Out (KNO) is back again this year!
KNO was first introduced in 2012 at Music Matters and has displayed the stature of K-pop at multiple, internationally renowned music festivals, including Midem and South by Southwest (SXSW). The showcase represents a platform to showcase an array of Korean music genres such as rock, R&B, indie pop and jazz and to date, a total of 35 top music acts, including Dynamic Duo, Nell, f(x) and Hyuna have graced the event and the showcase has undoubtedly become a bridgehead for international advancement and has promoted the diversity of K-pop across all demographics.
This year, K-Pop Night out at Music Matters will take place at Clarke Quay and the event will kick off at 8PM on May 23(Friday). It will once again feature a slew of top talent and proves to be a night not to be miss with psychedelic rockers Asian Chairshot, funky disco dancers Sultan of the Disco, modern rock legend Jaurim, indie pop sensation Daybreakand rising soloist Lim Kim gracing the event!
Asian Chairshot
Genre: Rock
Forming in 2011, Asian Chairshot caught attention of music critics and fans alike with the release of their EP “Mask”. With their hard-hitting mix of psychedelic music, garage rock and alternative rock, the trio started playing at major music festivals within 6 months of their debut and received nominations for “Best Rock Album” and “Best Rock Song” at the 2014 Korean Music Awards. Their strong vocals coupled with explosive and amazing guitar, drums and bass skills are not to be miss.
Sultan of the Disco
Genre: Disco/Funk
The quirky, disco quintet has captured music fans with their eye-popping outfits and funky stage personas. The group’s music, which is inspired by 60s and 70s vintage sounds, is an immediate ear-grabber. Sultan of the Disco’s latest dance floor jam, “Tang Tang Ball,” will make you groove instantly with its infectious hook.
Jaurim
Genre: Rock
Jaurim has rocked the Korean music scene for over a decade, becoming one of the most prominent and successful modern rock bands. Fronted by powerhouse vocalist Kim Yoona, the quartet continues to make a huge impact in the rock world with diverse range of genres and delving into both dark and bright subject matters. Jaurim’s ninth LP, “Goodbye, Grief” has garnered nomination for “Best Band Performance” at 2013 Mnet Music Awards.
Daybreak
Genre: Rock/Pop
The quartet band Daybreak created a major buzz with their hit single, “I Like,” in 2009 and soon after became a festival staple. Their lush combination of pop and rock sounds, as well as the mainstream success of their third album, “SPACEenSUM,” is helping the group gain fans by a thousand-fold.
Lim Kim
Genre: Pop
Lim Kim, the lead vocalist of duo Togeworl (top competitor on popular audition program “Superstar K”), has been praised far and wide by music industry professionals, as well as K–‐ pop veterans like Yoon Jong Shin & Lee Sung Chul for her sultry vocals. In 2013, the starlet released her first solo album titled, “Goodbye 20,” which helped her gain “Best New Artist” awards at both 2013 Music Melon Awards and 2014 Golden Disk Awards.
