Marking her gritty debut in a crime drama lead role, Park Bo-young stars as Heeju, a woman who fought to escape her stagnant backwater hometown, only to be plunged into a deadly conspiracy in Gold Land.

The Disney+ series features a powerhouse ensemble featuring Park Bo-young, Kim Sung-cheol, Lee Hyun-wook, Kim Hee-won, Moon Jeong-hee and Lee Kwang-soo. During a recent press conference, Director Kim Sung-hoon and the cast encapsulated the drama’s essence in just two words: greed and desire.

From the very start, the drama kicked into high gear with a high-stakes car chase. Against her will, helpless Bo-young faced a dilemma whether to let greed consume her or brave the danger to finally grab the wealthy life she has been dreaming about.

Despite playing villains role before, this role mark Kwang-Soo first major foray into gritty action sequences. Working closely with the director to refine his backstory, Kwang-soo portrayed an antagonist consumed by power, distinguished by a signature gold tooth.

What I admire about Kwang-soo is that he fully commits to the physical demands of the role. You can expect to see him being slammed against a moving car.

Then there’s Lee Hyun-wook’s character. He tracks down Bo-young’s character and decides to work with her, driven entirely by the promise of wealth. His wit adds a great spark to the show, making it really enjoyable to watch as everything unfolds.

Can Heeju keep 150 billion won worth of gold hidden forever?

New episodes of Gold Land are available every Wednesday on Disney+!
