Starhub Night of Stars 2018

The inaugural Starhub Night of Stars was held on 22nd December to invite distinguished guests, outstanding actors and celebrities, and more importantly, supportive viewers of Starhub cable network to celebrate the best of entertainment. The event brought together stars from the regions and presented them with awards to recognise their popularity and stellar performances on screen in 2018.

The first award of the evening, 2018 StarHub Best Host Award, went to Pauline Lan in recognition of her beauty show Lady First Singapore.

The Evergreen Artiste Award went to veteran Taiwanese actress who stars in series such as Night Market Life, The Dream Makers II and The Spirits of Love. Jasper Liu received the Dazzling Star Award. Liu starred in recent dramas Take Me to the Moon and My Goddess.

Fellow Taiwanese actor Derek Chang was awarded with the Rising Star Award for his role in My Dear Boy.

2018 was a significant milestone year for Singaporean actor Lawrence Wong who made his name in the hit drama Yanxi Palace. The Breakthrough Star Award rightly went to him as a recognition for his years of hard work and dedication towards acting.

In other categories, Hong Kong actress Rebecca Zhu received the Best TV Drama Character Award for her role as a lively stuntwoman in the TVB drama The Stunt.

Joe Ma was awarded Best TVB Artiste Award of the night, fresh after receiving the highest recognition Best Actor in a Leading Role award from TVB’s annual award ceremony. This year marks his stellar return with medical drama Life on the Line, interpreting the role of an ambulance man.

In the South Korean entertainment category, boy band A.C.E snagged the Best Newcomer Award and delivered their performances of Cactus and Take Me Higher.

The Most Charismatic Performance Award went to girl group Cosmic Girls who took the stage with their dances to Secret and Save Me, Save You.

Korean singer Jeong Sewoon was presented with the Best Asian Drama OST Award and gave a touching performance of It’s You, from the original soundtrack of top Korean drama What’s Wrong with Secretary Kim.

During the event, Sam Lee also graced the stage and performed two of his classic hit songs Absolute infatuation and Let Go of the Hand.

Last but certainly not the least, two of the greatest awards of the event, Best Female Asian Star Award and Best Male Asian Star Award, were presented to Qin Lan and Lee Joon Gi respectively. Qin Lan had a huge breakthrough with her role as Empress Fucha Rong Yin in Yanxi Palace and received great praise for her grace, poise and warmth. Since then, she has earned the nickname Empress (or Niang Niang in Mandarin) that accompanies her everywhere she goes.

On the other hand, actor Lee Joon Gi captured the audience’s attention with his swift stunts, charisma and realistic portrayal of roles in Lawless Lawyer and Criminal Minds. Apart from his drama works, viewers were also able to observe his true personality through the reality show Lee Joon-Gi’s JG Island. It is no surprise that his fans are deeply attracted to his multi-faceted personalities and ability to portray various characters.
