Anugerah 2017, Mengejar Impian (Chase your Dreams) a local Malay talent competition celebrating the best vocal capabilities in Singapore ended it run last Tuesday, 21 March 2017. The 10 weeks of grueling performances started of with auditions held in December 2016 in the eastern part of the peninsular. The auditions were narrowed down to 16 finalists.

Residence judges this season were our own Singapore Idol, Taufik Batisah, notable television personality, Najip Ali and music composer, Indra Shahrir. Held at MediaCorp’s new broadcasting facility at 1 Stars Avenue, the big night was graced by Chief Content Officer – Mr Cheah Chee Kong. Past season contestants were present to show their support.

As the ultimate winner, Mohd Shahfiq was awarded $20,000, a trophy as well as a recording and management contract with Malaysian-based recording company, Paranormal Records. Liwani Izzati won $1,000 for clinching the social media award – Instagram, Anugerah Media Sosial One Drop Perfumes, with an additional $1,000 as a finalist. She was too offered a recording contract with the record label. Syakirah Noble and Nor Shafiq each won $1,000 for being finalists.

The two hour finale show featured duet performances of the four finalists with local singers such as Sufi Rashid, Aisyah Aziz, Iskandar Ismail and Maiya Rahman. Dressed in a gorgeous black dress, Malaysia’s Dayang Nurfaizah performed popular hits such as Lelaki Teragung and Takkan Menyerah.

The show is a platform for young locals to showcase their talents apart from creating covers online such as Youtube and Soundcloud. Anugerah has made an impact on the Malay speaking community every since it was first introduced on Suria. This is evident that talent can be found just anywhere on the island and continuos hardwork and determination leads to success.
