Up Close with Nathan Hartono by Singel Music!

Nathan Hartono is back after the post free-Milo-craze and clinching second place in Sing! China which concluded in 2016. Hartono shined on stage with his four piece band during his showcase at Millian on 21 January 2017.

The wet and chilly afternoon did not stop the huge crowd from rushing into the venue. Fans were treated to popular tunes such as Careless Whisper from the late George Michael and Hotline Bling by Drake. Hartono also performed Mandarin hits such as the song he sang during his audition – You Mei You (Have You Ever) by Wei Li An plus a medley of Jay Chou songs in various genres; moondance and R&B soul. Hartono never fails to please his fans with his strong vocals and clear articulations of the Mandarin lyrics which he admits in between sets, was a challenge.

Other than covers, fans also had the opportunity to hear him sing some originals such as Tell Me Something which he co-wrote with local singer Daphne Khoo. He also performed other originals such as Weight of My Loove, Thinkin About Love and Electricity which reminded me very much of the band Mumford and Sons in the way that he performed the song in the classic rock style. The night ended with a sing-along session to Electricity which saw fans going all out dancing to the chorus.

Hartono is definitely a great role model for our future home grown talents. Local music lovers do keep a look out for Hartono’s next EP which is set to be released this year.

The Fifth Parlour would like to thank Warner Music Singapore for the invitation.
