2016 has been a memorable year for many but also a difficult period as nations struggle to overcome hurdles and unite in troubled times. As we all wish for a better 2017, Collateral Beauty is a good recommendation to begin the new year with a thought-provoking movie about the major themes in life: love, time and death.

In the movie, Howard Inlet (played by Will Smith) sunk into depression with suicidal thoughts after the tragic loss of his daughter. Then, his colleagues, Whit Yardsham (played by Edward Norton), Claire Wilson ( played by Kate Winslet), and Simon Scott (played by Michael Peña), managed to intercept Howard’s letters about love, time and death. With these letters, they hired three actors, Aimee (played by Keira Knightley), Raffi (played by Jacob Latimore) and Brigitte (played by Helen Mirren), to embody love, time and death before Howard.

Despite the cold weather, Collateral Beauty held its European Movie premiere in London last December. The crowd gathered early in the morning and waited long for the cast. The red carpet event was graced by Will Smith, Naomie Harris, Dame Helen Mirren, Edward Norton, Jacob Latimore and other invited guests.

In Europe, the movie was released in December hence the audience were able to enjoy this heart-warming and reflective film before the end of 2016. As the movie was released in the same month as Rogue One, the film suffered in the box office. Nonetheless, such a thought-provoking movie remains open to subjectivity.
