It was love at first sight (or rather, sound) for me when I first heard this track playing on Korean hit drama, Uncontrollably Fond – starring Kim Woo-bin and Bae Suzy.
Yes, I am talking about the song, A Little Braver – which topped the iTunes chart in eight countries in Asia, garnered over 850k streams to date and climbed into the Top 10 on the PH viral Spotify chart on Spotify. Thanks to the overwhelming support and response, the band even did a music video for the song, which only took them about five hours to film!
I just could not get enough of this song that I went to search high and low for the band who sang it. And that was how I was introduced to the Australian four-piece band – New Empire.

Meet Jeremy Fowler (vocals/guitar), Kyle Lane (Guitar), Nate Cairns (Bass) and Kale Kneale (Drums) who makes up New Empire. The Fifth Parlour had the opportunity to interview Nate Cairns from New Empire.
Cairns revealed that the band was overwhelmed with the support they have received thus far. “I remember we woke up one morning to all these new fans from Korea, Singapore, Taiwan, and all over the Asia region, reaching out to us to let us know just how much they loved A Little Braver,” shared Cairns. Their other song, Across The Oceans was also featured on Uncontrollably Fond.

Unfortunately, if you have done a quick Google search on the band, you might have already found out that the band has since disbanded as of October 2015, after being together for 10 years. I was really sad when I got to know about this asking myself why I did not discover the band earlier. Judging from the comments from fans on their social medias, I know I am not the only one feeling this way.
Despite disbanding, will there be a chance for the band to get back together now that they have been discovered all over Asia?
As of now, there are no definite plans. However, they shared that they are not putting the idea down of touring around Asia and meet their new fans. “We just want to say a big Thank You to everyone who has supported A Little Braver and us as a band, but i guess for now (in this moment) there is no real plans to get back on the road. Not to say there never will be though,” added Cairns.
Also, not to worry as the band still keeps in touch with each other; hanging from time to time and jam on some new music ideas. Let’s hope they will be inspired to start performing again! For now, let’s keep supporting the band by downloading the music on iTunes. Who knows New Empire might just drop by Asia to perform due to the new pool of crowd!
If you would like to be the first to know about the band’s updates, follow them on their social medias; Twitter and Facebook Page!
The Fifth Parlour would like to thank Nate Cairns from New Empire for the interview and Pete Gillies for coordinating the interview.
