It was a day filled with great music and spirit as over 8000 people gathered for NTU Fest at Padang.
Last Saturday, students of Nanyang Technological University (NTU) organised a one day festival to raise funds for the needy students from Institute of Technical Education (ITE). The festival includes a carnival, charity run as well as a free concert headlined by local stars as well as KPop stars Kang Gary and Jung In. Proceeds from the sale of carnival coupons for use at the 55 booths, and the $10 registration fees for the 4.8-km 5TYLO Mile-O fun run will go towards the ITE Endowment Fund which provides financial assistance to needy ITE students.
The concert started off with performances by The Huckleberry Friends followed by the Top 12 Finalists from Channel U latest singing competition, Project Superstar. Singing the reality show’s theme song as well as cover songs, the Top 12 finalists not only manage to showcase their singing ability but also, took the chance to attract new fans and rally more votes.
The event was also attended by other MediaCorp artists.
Final 1’s winner, Farisha Ishak put on a solid performance and mesmerized the crowd with her her soulful voice with Tonight, a track from her debut album -Aligned.
MediaCorp’s dashing heartthrob, Desmond Tan also wowed the crowd with his singing – elevating the mood of the crowd.
The cast for the new season of Mata Mata which includes Rebecca Lim and Cynthia Koh also made an appearance that night. They gave an insight on their roles in the show, making fans of the dramas on site feeling excited for the premiere that is scheduled to be in September.
Local band, District 12 got the crowd swaying as they performed ballad tracks and a cover of Bruno Mars’s Treasure.
The highlight of the night was the final act of the concert – Kpop Stars Kang Gary and Jung In closing the show. The crowd went wild when Jung In made her solo entrance. Her rendition of John Legend’s hit song, All of Me flaunts her melodic and unique voice, capturing the heart of the crowd.
The screams amplified with the entrance of Kang Gary, member of LesSang as well popular variety show, Running Man. His charismatic rap and killer smile sent the crowd into a frenzy, their hearts fluttering.
He declared his love for the local crowd and communicated with a tinge of Singlish as he screamed “Singapore shiok!” to the crowd. Unlike Gary, this is Jung In’s first visit to Singapore. The female soloist shared that she was surprised and touched to see a passionate crowd.
The duo then took the stage and performed their hit track, Your Scent as a closing act for the night. Chants of encores later called Gary back on stage where he performed 2 more songs – You’re The Answer To A Guy Like Me and Rush, a song fromLeeSsang’s first album.
Overall, it was a night of great fun and entertainment, and the best part, all for a good cause.
The Fifth Parlour would like to thank Feisal from NTU for the invitation.
