Ever since Alex Goot started performing in front of stuffed animals at the age of eight with his sister, he has never stopped performing.

Since then. Alex has became truly captivated by the idea of performing on a real stage, playing for real people instead of a stuffed audience of bears. He felt that music is the only thing he is good at.

Alex managed to captivate fans from all over the world with his covers and originals on YouTube.

In 2011, his cover of Britney Spears, Hold it Against Me, won him an award for Best Fan Cover at the MTV O Music Awards. He has collaborated with other YouTube Sensations such as Kurt Hugo, Sam Tsui, Megan Nicole, Against The Current and many more.

Fans have been a huge part of Alex’s career. His first studio album, In The Atmosphere, was fully crowdfunded. To Alex, the support has been unbelievable. “From a seemingly lofty and silly dream, to being fully crowd-funded by a huge group of seriously supportive fans — I would have never thought it was possible. I love my fans,” said Alex.

In June, Alex released a new album, Wake Up Call. Alex revealed that in order to produce and write for the album, he isolated himself  from the world for six solid months. At that time, he felt depressed, lost and alone as he was unsure what he is doing in life. That period of time has helped him understand himself better and he feels much more happy, stable and well rounded person after that. Hence, the title of the EP is close to his heart as he sees the entire process of making the album as a wake up call for him.

Alex will be performing in Singapore on Thursday with Against The Current. Alex is quite close with the band and has done quite a number of collaborations together. Hence, we asked Alex about what we should know about the band. According to Alex,

  • When Chrissy gets bored during recordings, she will make dinosaur noises,
  • Dan Gow is an amazing driver. He could be on NASCAR some day,
  • Will Ferri lives in the kind of home where you WILL eat + experience the finest italian meatballs you’ve ever had in your life.

If you would like to catch both Alex and Against The Current, you can still purchase tickets at Peatix!

The Fifth Parlour would like to thank Alex for the interview and Colin from Impact Live for coordinating the interview.
