Jeremy Passion was in Singapore last Saturday for his first show in Singapore. Held at Lowercase, the show received a warmhearted response from more than 100 concert-goers.
The opening act of the night, Doves & Ravens, sang their self compositions such as “Pieces” and “Heartbreaker” and got the crowd engaged right from the get-go. The guys even sang a part of a Filipino song as a nod to Jeremy Passion’s Filipino roots which we felt was really sweet! Doves & Ravens ended their performance with an awesome cover of Robin Thicke’s controversial song, “Blurred Lines”.
Gayle Nerva, accompanied by a bass player, was one of the supporting acts of the night. The local singer-songwriter’s bashfulness was apparent on stage, she even admitted to being nervous! That was really adorable of her and it got the crowd laughing to ease her up. Gayle sang a couple of her originals such as “Promise to Remember Me”, “Alice” and “California Love” and charmed the crowd with her tunes. She even did a cover of Katy Perry’s “Mannequin”, and we really enjoyed her take on the pop-rock song.
Next up was supporting act, Clarence Liew, also known as Clo. The talented YouTube singer sang his renditions of popular songs such as “Fine China” by Chris Brown, “Radioactive” by Imagine Dragons and “Suit & Tie” by Justin Timberlake to overwhelming responses. What left the most impression to me was his cover of Jason Mraz’s “I Won’t Give Up”. Clarence dedicated the song to everyone in the audience and encouraged the crowd to never give up on their dreams. He hoped the song would give us an extra push to never give up – assuring us that however tough it is at the moment, we would realize our dreams someday.
Clarence also shared that it was his biggest hope and dream to perform alongside Jeremy Passion and that night was a big dream come true for him. Aww, we’re equally happy he finally got to share the stage with Jeremy Passion as well.
The most anticipated act of the night, Jeremy Passion appeared to the overwhelming cheers from the audience. Jeremy started his performance with a cover of different pop songs back-to-back – ranging from Justin Bieber’s “As Long As You Love Me” to Gotye’s “Somebody That I Used To Know”.
Jeremy shared that he likes to tell stories, and most of his songs have a message behind them. For instance, his song “32” is about his mom whom he considers a ‘Superwoman’ and “Suddenly” is a story about ‘timing’. “Well Done” is written to honor his grandma while “I Don’t Care” is about a long-distance relationship. It was heart-warming listening to all the songs and learning about the meaning behind all of Jeremy’s songs.
Jeremy and Clarence paired up and did a cover of John Legend’s “Ordinary People”. Oh, the harmony. They both sounded fantastic together. “Lemonade” – the song that propelled Jeremy to the position to be doing music for the next 10 years was then sung. The show then wrapped up with an encore of Jeremy singing Ne-Yo’s “So Sick” which the crowd absolutely loved.
Jeremy’s vocals were on point that night and his performance was very well-received by the audience. The concert venue was very cosy and the audience could grab snacks or drinks at the bar. It was a very chill event and it felt more like a get-together session instead of a concert.
The Meet & Greet session was held after the concert and VIP ticket holders got to interact with Jeremy. Fans not just got Jeremy’s autograph, they even got to take selfies with Jeremy and chat with him for the few minutes on stage. From my experience as a regular concert-goer, it was the most intimate Meet & Greet session I’ve ever witnessed.
Special thanks to Marco from MAS Presents for bringing Jeremy Passion to Singapore.
