Hidden Gem: Nina Nesbitt

Nina Nesbitt is a Scottish singer-songwriter who aims to make a name in the music industry with her own colour of music. She was just like any other teenagers except that she chose to tell her story as a 20 year old girl starting with a keyboard and an acoustic guitar.

Using Ultimate Guitar to teach herself the guitar chords, Nina’s determination and talent got acknowledged when one of her self-composed song about growing up “Standing on One Leg” broke into the music industry after Ed Sheeran offered her to open his show in Glasgow upon hearing her song.  Nina’s cover of Example’s “Stay Awake” also gained attention from the man himself and she ended up performing on Example’s tour in 2011-2012.

Paving her path in a different direction compared to others, she turned down offers from labels to sign her and was determined to first build her own stable and fan base and develop her own sound. She released her first independent EP , “Live Take” and soon after, her second EP “The Apple Tree” which consist of  five self-composed songs about growing up. Her songs garnered many attention and even receive airplay on BBC Radio 1. Nina is currently signed with Island and at that on her own terms and conditions just as she wanted.
