Dorayaki is a popular Japanese pancake snack. Made with premium Hokkaido milk, the Dorayaki comes in four flavours; Azuki Red Bean, Cheese, Uji Matcha and Taro. When I first bite into the Dorayaki, I was surprised that it was so soft. Then, it got me thinking, what if I put in the microwave and heat it up for 10 to 15 seconds?
Wow, it did elevate the experience. So if you have the time, do put it in the microwave. However, if you are busy in the morning and just need a quick bite, the Dorayaki is ready to eat right from the packet. Out of the four flavours, here is my ranking from my favourite to least favourite:
  1. Azuku Red Bean: this tops my list as it reminded me of the old school bun with generous filling of red bean paste. I like how the red bean paste is soft and complements well with the Dorayaki.
  2. Cheese: I like how creamy the cheese was and it is not overwhelming and gives you the jelak feeling.
  3. Taro: I am a fan of Taro however, I wish the paste was not as hard and prefer for it to be similar in texture as the red bean.
  4. Uji Matcha: Matcha is an acquired taste unfortunately; it was not for me. But if you are a Matcha fan, you might like it.

The Dorayaki is now available at all major supermarkets, hypermarkets and convenience stores islandwide for only $2.
