After a successful acting career spanning a couple of decades, Pierre Png is taking on a new challenge as a radio DJ. In a recent email interview, Png shared with The Fifth Parlour his inspirations, goals, and expectations for this new chapter.

For Png, the decision to transition to radio was about embracing new experiences and stepping out of his comfort zone. “It was an opportunity to try something new,” he said, quoting the Mandarin proverb (learn until old age). This mindset reflects Png’s commitment to continuous learning and growth.

As a radio DJ, Png hopes to achieve a more direct and concise connection with his audience. “To be clear and straight to the point in my delivery,” he said with a laugh, adding that his wife has encouraged him to be more succinct. This goal highlights Png’s desire to communicate effectively and engage his listeners.

Png’s approach to engaging with listeners is straightforward: authenticity. “I’m just going to be myself,” he said. This approach has already generated significant interest, with listeners eager to get to know the real Pierre Png beyond his TV persona.

While Png doesn’t have control over the playlist, he revealed that his personal preference would be to play songs from movie soundtracks. This nod to his acting roots showcases Png’s appreciation for the intersection of music and film.

As for his acting experience, Png believes it will help him connect with listeners and fellow DJs. “Most Singaporeans know me, and they’re curious about who I really am,” he said. This existing familiarity will likely work in Png’s favor as he builds a new relationship with his audience.
