This Disney+ Day, an exciting new Korean variety show starring Yu Jaeseok, Lee Kwangsoo and Kwon Yuri, THE ZONE: Survival Mission is premiering!

The variety show is spread across eight hilarious episodes, as its three hosts as representatives of the human race before throwing them into eight unexpected situations where they will be challenged to survive for four hours and not give up, in order to complete each mission.

In the virtual press conference, Yu Jaeseok mentioned that there were no breaks for four hours straight during filming as it was formatted as an “escaped room”. The trio had to rely on each other’s strengths to crack the codes while avoiding traps in each episode before teleporting to the next location.

It has been awhile since we had Lee Kwangsoo and Yu Jaeseok in the same variety show. You can’t deny the comedic chemistry the two usually have and Yuri’s presence creates a calming effect as they brace through the hidden barriers. Watch out for special guests throughout the episodes as they get themselves in tune with scenarios that come by. Real issues such as global warming were mentioned in a subtle manner at the end of each mission.

Producers Cho Hyojin and Kim Dongjin explained that the Covid-19 pandemic has partly inspired the root meaning of the show. Further explaining, “It’s not the strongest that survive, but the survivors are the strongest.” As you enjoy the show on Disney+, you would figure that Yu Jaeseok, Lee Kwangsoo and Kwon Yuri were cast as representatives of humanity namely Humorous, Humanistic and Harmony.
