To the great surprise and delight of many fans, Korean pop sensations SHINee and Red Velvet were back in Singapore once more to grace the opening of the new Shilla Duty Free shop in Changi Airport Terminal 4 as the official ambassadors. Having just performed at the Music Bank 10th Anniversary World Tour in Singapore 3 months earlier, the groups were back as the main guests of the Shilla Beauty Concert which was held on 28 Nov at Suntec Convention Centre.
Opening the concert that night to an eager crowd of over 5,000 people was singer-songwriter Eddy Kim, who got the crowd thumping along to his guitar in upbeat songs such as ‘Apologise’, ‘You’re so beautiful’ an OST soundtrack from the highly rated Kdrama ‘Goblin’, and his most notable ballad song ‘The Manual’. Having been to Singapore once last year, Eddy was elated in being able to meet more fans on a bigger stage and expressed his wish to perform in Singapore again in the near future.
Taking to the stage right before the main performances, selected local dance groups showed their sleek moves as they performed their covers of renown SHINee and Red Velvet title tracks. It must have been nerve-wrecking but definitely the most memorable moment for the dancers as not many can boast of performing in a Kpop concert in front of their beloved idols.
As if reading their fans’ minds as to when they would be performing, Red Velvet finally makes their appearance with ‘Dumb Dumb’. While sharing about their great experience at The Shilla’s new Duty Free store, the girls elaborated further about the beauty treatments they received such as hand massages which they hoped that everyone would give it a try too. Performing ‘Peekaboo’ for the first time in Singapore, the highly sought-after girl group also revealed that they would be holding a concert in Japan next year, and hoped that they would be able to hold one in Singapore too.
The arena soon transformed into a sea of pearl aqua with Shawols ardently waving their light sticks to the electronic beat of ‘View’ as SHINee overtook the stage with their cool charisma. Indeed, beauty products know no gender as SHINee member, Key, self-admits during a question posed by the MC that he has great interest in beauty care and often gives his members beauty care tips. Taemin then surprised everyone by choosing “Happiness” as his beauty care tip.
The concert thus ended on a high note with charismatic performances, and prizes being awarded to the Best Cover Dance team and Best Photo. Concert goers too, delightfully walked away with door gifts consisting of various Changi Airport souvenirs and The Shilla Duty Free Store vouchers.
The Fifth Parlour would like to thank The Orange Press for the invitation to the concert.
