Star Shining Even Brighter – Shazza’s Debut to the Big Screen

Local singer-songwriter, Shazza, has added another title to her string of talents – acting. Last month, she was crowned the champion of the first ever reality acting competition on Mediacorp Suria, Berani Lakon. Despite being eliminated in the first round, she was brought back in the wildcard round and went to ace the competition.

Acknowledging that her proficiency in the Malay language is not that strong, she admitted that she kept stumbling on her words pretty often. As if that is not already a challenge, she has to memorise a script and input her emotions to every words that she delivers all at the same time. Not an easy feat for someone who is not proficient in that particular language. However, as the saying goes, practise makes perfect and that is exactly what Shazza did. “The more I did it, the easier it got. By the end, I was still struggling, but I was a lot more confident in myself,” revealed Shazza.

With that determination, Shazza debuted her first acting role during the Hari Raya weekend. Playing as Aliza on Mimpi Raya, she described her character as a cool girl who is the belle of the block. Of course, she will have suitors who is trying to impress her with all sorts of antics. Shazza is lucky enough to be paired with Dato’ Jalaludin Hassan, who plays her grandfather. If you do not already know, Dato’ Jalaludin Hassan is considered to be the Richard Gere of Malaysia. “Acting alongside him was such an honour and so pressurising at the same time. He is a legend and to get to share the screen with him in my very first role like this is huge to me,” said Shazza. Shazza added that she learnt a lot from him and the others on set.

Dabbling in the world of acting has opened her heart to this art form. She enjoys being in character as she is able to view different perspectives and experience new things. Who is Shazza looking forward to work with if given the chance to choose her co-stars?

Shazza is keen to work with Annette Lee as she loves her personality and adores her work. Also, she hopes to work with Benjamin Kheng. However, this time instead of sharing the stage as singers, she would love to act alongside him. Fingers crossed that we will get to see all our local talents working alongside each other.

I cannot wait to see more of Shazza either on the big screen or on our radio. 2026 will be the year this star shines brightly and be known to more! Stay connected to Shazza on her social media; Instagram, TikTok and YouTube.

The Fifth Parlour would like to thank Shazza for the interview and Mediacorp for coordinating the interview.
