The atmosphere felt like we were back in 2004, the day Singapore crowned our very first Singapore Idol at the Singapore Indoor Stadium. Fans that supported Taufik Batisah donned white and that was the colour that filled The Star Theatre yesterday night.
Our very first Singapore Idol winner, Taufik Batisah, serenaded the crowd for three hours with his songs weaved with his humour and life stories. Taufik shared his personal memories, the meaning behind some of the songs, and how thankful he was for all the support that were given to him over his 20 years in the industry. Throughout the concert, he kept thanking his fan and was surprised it was a sold out concert.
Taufik took his fans down memory lane with songs he sang during Singapore Idol days and his originals. It really brought me back to 2004 as you hear him sing Me and Mrs Jones, Khayalan and of course, the song that started his journey, I Dream. Towards the end, when the winning song was played, it felt like we were transported back in time during the Singapore Idol finals rooting for Taufik.
The three hours show also showed you another side of Taufik – a crybaby. Oops! Like they say, a real man cry and it is not embarrassing to show your emotions. During the concert, Taufik acknowledged his Mum’s sacrifices and shared how she has been supporting him. He reminded fans to appreciate the ones we love before it is too late. He even serenaded his wife, Sheena, with Hanya Kamu the song he sang during their wedding. He had to stop a few times as he was trying to hold back his tears. Good job Taufik for making me cry too. I have never cried so much at a concert!
During the promotion of the concert, there was no news of any special appearances. However, we were blessed with three guests; local talent, Mark Bonafide and two Indonesian artists Afgan and Rossa. What a treat for fans to hear the performers share their stories about him. One thing in common in their stories is about his humility and how blessed they are for the friendship.
Taufik’s 20 years journey in the industry has been phenomenal. Not only locally known, he has also made names in Malaysia and Indonesia. Despite the concert titled One Last Dance, I hope this is not the last time we hear him sing. Thank you Taufik for blessing our ears with your voice!
