Imagine indulging in your favourite dessert without the guilt – that is the vision of Ketojiak. The Fifth Parlour had the opportunity to meet the owner of Ketojiak, Galvin Sng.

Nestled under the block of Owen Road is a cosy ice-cream shop that sells over 50 flavours of low-carb and no-added-sugar ice cream. An inclusive ice cream place where no one is left behind despite their condition. Sng was motivated to create these ice cream after a health scare. In 2020, he started to be on Keto diet after he was suspected to have fatty liver. At that point, he searched for desserts that is suitable for those on Keto diet however, he could not find one. That prompted him to try to make his own. What started out as his personal stash of chocolate ice cream, then turned into a home based business after he shared his ice cream with the children at his condominium.
After three years of home based business, Sng decided that it is time open a shop after there are more demands for his ice cream. Not only those on Keto diet appreciates his ice cream, those suffering from diabetes benefits from it too. This vision became clearer after he underwent a life coaching session.

Despite not having any experience being a business owner, Sng decided to take a leap of faih and took over a space that was selling gelato previously. Sng revealed that when he first started he was clueless, “everything is on the job. I didn’t know how to scoop.”

Initially, the flavours offered were only chocolate, vanilla and non-local flavours. Along the way, customers requested for certain flavours and Sng motto is if you requested for it, he will try to experiment and make it sugar free and low carb. He will then do a taste test and if it passes the test, he will then sell it. Now, his locally inspired flavours includes Orh Nee (Yam), Black Sesame, Kopi Gao, Nonya Kaya, Onde Onde, Pulut Hitam, and Musang King.
Chewy Nama Chocolate is one of their best selling flavours and of course I had to give it a try! I ordered the buttermilk waffle with double scoop ($19) – Chewy Nama Chocolate and Salted Caramel. Did you know their waffle contains as much protein as 4/5 of a chicken breast! The Chewy Nama Chocolate tasted exactly like the Sticky Chewy Chocolate from Swensen’s. I did not expect that. Can you imagine indulging in this without feeling the guilt?
This cosy ice cream space will soon be heading to a bigger space at Bras Basah by the end of this year. Besides a bigger space, customers can expect more seats which will benefit groups and bigger families, expanded drink menu and a new addition of sundaes where you can choose your toppings and sauces.
As we countdown to the bigger space, do check out Ketojiak at their current outlet. If you are looking to utilise your CDC/SG60 vouchers, you can use it at Ketojiak.
