Gachiakuta: Thrown Away But Not Forgotten

As early as June, anime fans were teased with the key visual and concept video on YouTube. Then, they were treated to a special advance screening of the highly anticipated Gachiakuta, and Singapore was among the chosen locations in the world!

Gachiakuta is an unconventional series born from the collaboration of manga artist Kei Urana and graffiti designer Hideyoshi Andou. The dynamic pairing breathed life into Urana’s 2022 manga, translating its acclaimed storytelling and edgy, stylish visuals to the screen.

To quote Gita Rebbapragada, Chief Operating Officer at Crunchyroll, “There is a raw, emotional current in Gachiakuta that will resonate with fans the moment they see it.”

As someone who watched anime for its creative and insightful storytelling, Gachiakuta immediately drew me in. Its dystopian setting, where a floating city starkly divided the wealthy and the impoverished, forcing the latter to dwell in a wasteland of thrown-away rubbish offers a fresh, hard-hitting commentary on social segregation and environmental neglect.

I am particularly curious about how the story will unfold in the upcoming episodes, especially how Rudo’s quest will unveil the truths behind his exile and the larger inequalities at play.

Catch new episodes of Gachiakuta, every Sunday on Crunchyroll.

The Fifth Parlour would like to thank Eastwest PR for the invitation.
