The women cast are Kim Taeri, Shin Yeeun, Jung Eun Chae, Ra Mi Ran and Kim Yoon Hye. Get ready to be fascinated by the beautiful costumes, sombre music, and colourful set design from the Pansori. It is a Korean genre of musical storytelling typically performed by a singer and a drummer.
In a Pansori show, the actor performs folk stories, usually of hardships and romance. The elaborate kind theatrical singing by Jeongnyeon (Kim Taeri) reminded me of a modern interpretation of the pansori; The Tiger is Coming Down by Leenalchi. The traditional fusion song was once used by the Korea Tourism Organization for a campaign and is still my favourite!
Will Jeongnyeon achieve her dream of becoming a successful Gukgeuk performer in Korea?
