a beautiful blur: LANY’s Sixth Live Show in Singapore

American pop-rock band; LANY recently performed in Singapore as part of their latest tour, A Beautiful Blur. This time, they opened the show with American alternative/indie band, Culture Wars. It was not LANY’s first tour to Singapore; it was their sixth! By now, they should have memorized all our Singlish slang and are familiar with our local delicacies.

I have heard of both LANY and Culture Wars. However, I have not listen to them extensively. I like to keep an open mind, as I believe all music is beautiful, regardless of genre or language.

Culture Wars, hailing from Austin, Texas, definitely got the crowd hyped up. I spent some time before the show listening to their music, and I really enjoyed it! They performed six original singles, including their latest release, Miley, which quickly became one of my favourites. Their sound reminds me of The 1975, but with a heavier, catchier edge.

They delivered an all-out performance from start to finish. While I do not listen to LANY much, I found myself becoming a fan after the show. One aspect I particularly enjoyed was their interaction with the audience. The band made it a point to engage with fans during every song in their repertoire. Paul Klein, the vocalist ventured into the pit to take selfies and give high-fives to everyone nearby. Now that is what I call giving back to your fans!

LANY also expressed their love for Singapore, noting that they kept returning for shows. Their affection did not stop there; they invited local singer, Benjamin Kheng to join them on stage, which added a special touch to the night.

Now to summarize what I thought of the show?

The bands have officially won me over. Both bands show what they had to offer on a live show which they gave their all! And both bands were amazing from start to finish. If an opportunity arise again, I would love to catch both bands again.

The Fifth Parlour would like to thank Canglo for the invitation.
