British rock band Coldplay was recently in Singapore for a record-breaking of six nights at the National Stadium, a first for them to perform at the biggest venue in Singapore. The last time they were here was in 2017 when they played for two sold-out nights!
Coldplay has released two albums and toured the world before the pandemic hit. The band continued touring again after the pandemic when they streamed their concerts live through major cinemas. The Music of the Spheres hit major cities around the world since 2023, promoting ecological sustainability at concert venues. Coldplay is the first artist to donate 10% of ticket and merchandise sales to various socially conscious organizations and environmental projects.
If you were at the National Stadium standing section, you would noticed that there were kinetic powered trampoline and bicycles. These equipments were used to power up the concert. With that, the venue does not have to rely mainly on generating powers since fans are powering up their show. If there are any extra powers, it will be used for their next shows. It is honestly, the smartest and most amazing way to maximise energy and concert experience!
Other than sustainability, being inclusive is also one of the band’s mission. LiveNation together with the band has collaborated with Kulture City to provide sensory devices for those who are sensitive to lights and loud noises. This gives everyone the opportunity to have similar concert experiences. There was also sign language at the concert. Lead singer, Chris Martin even signed to Something Just Like This!
The famous lighted bracelets that flash and light up during certain songs was another experienced I love. It still amazed me to this day how this works so well with the show. A few highlights of the night included red lights in the shape of hearts, followed by Chris Martin’s fun moments as he diverted the attention to the audience all around the stadium and created candid moments as the camera pans to unsuspected people.
Their ten days in Singapore marks their 130th show. Lucky fans including myself managed to experience the colourful and exhilarating two-hour performance! It would not be a Coldplay concert if you are not swayed by ballads like Fix You and be high by party anthems such as A Sky Full of Stars all under one roof!
