It has been a positive start to 2024. I had the chance to experience my first live performance by Imran Ajmain and he brought his A game at the Victoria Theatre!

Based in Kuala Lumpur, the Singaporean singer-songwriter returned to his homeland to celebrate his first decade in music artistry. He performed a selection of unforgettable Malay ballads and upbeat music such as Hanya Menari, Mengaku Kalah, Ghaibmu, Sudah tu Sudah and his latest single, Padam Dan Pergi from his upcoming album.

Padam Dan Pergi is different from his usual songs. The tune was collaborated with Ahmadul Amin and he performed exclusively for the concert.

Satu Malam Di Singapura (One Night in Singapore) is part of Imran Ajmain’s concert series; Malam Seribu Tahun, which is a play of words from his popular hit, Seribu Tahun (A Thousand Years). The concert series will continue in Kuala Lumpur in February.

Reminiscing classic songs from Imran Ajmain’s repertoire was not enough. The opening acts included local and Malaysian singers; Firwan Johan, Heidi Moru and Ahmadul Amin who sang their original songs.

The intimate set-up was cosy and relaxed as slightly dimmed lights were shone against raised see-through curtains on stage. The show was a mix of laughter and joy. The audience was encouraged to sing along and record snippets of the show (even though it was prohibited).

The night ended with a moving rendition of Seribu Tahun with fans cheering him on! It was refreshing to see a heartwarming, sensitive and humble singer like Imran on stage.

If I had to choose a favourite moment from the show, it would be impossible as I was entertained throughout the show. Besides belting out his vocals, he also took time to interact with the audience and acknowledged the support he received from his family, fans and friends, who were in the audince too. They have been a pillar of strength for his music career.

With a new single released and a sold out Singapore concert, 2024 has been a good start for Imran!
