Imagine rekindling your past and fast-forwarding to the present, all at the same place. The six-part South Korean romance drama series, Soundtrack #2 would be a soothing treat for you. The drama stars Keum Saerok, Steve Sanghyun Noh and Sohn Jeonghyuck.

The latest season would have a different cast and storyline from the previous one released in 2022. Soundtrack #2 is the story of two exes, Do Hyeon-Seo (by Saerok) and Ji Su-Ho (by Steve Sanghyun) who met again after many years after their breakup. He becomes a successful CEO of a media company while she is a piano instructor who gave up on her dreams. They meet K (by Jeonghyuck) a famous performer on social media who later works with them.
I had the opportunity to binge-watch both Season 1 and a preview of the first two episodes Soundtrack #2 and I have concrete reasons why you should watch it!
Amazing co-directors working together
It is co-directed by Director Kim Hee Won (left) who was responsible for Vincenzo and Director Choi Jung Gyu (right) who brought us The Devil Judge both in 2021. They had a similar vision for the drama, which Director Kim described as adapting reality into a classic romance story surrounding the theme of music. She added that it is refreshing with the various experimental cinematography throughout the drama. Director Choi’s favourite was the end credits, where cute romantic scenes are most prominent.
Steve Sanghyun Noh first lead in Korean Drama
Steve Sanghyun was featured on Apple TV+ series Pachinko and it became a hit. The serious role he undertook as a Christian pastor earned him an award at the 2023 Film Independent Spirit Awards. In his first lead role, he plays a fun character who later reconnects with his ex-girlfriend who is his piano teacher. The charming gazes as Steve Sanghyun mentioned in the press conference, were part of the playful acts. Director Kim scouted him through a producer friend from a Korean variety show where he behaved similarly to the role in Soundtrack #2.
Sohn Jeonghyuck wrote the lyrics of OST music for Soundtrack #2
Sohn Jeonghyuck plays a social media sensation in his acting debut. He wrote the lyrics to the original soundtrack of the drama and performed live during the press conference. His character is a transparent naïve person with a sense of purity on top of his musical talent. The directors felt the chemistry goes well with all three as they are entangled in a love triangle. As an artiste, Sohn Jeonghyuck was preparing an album but postponed the release date since he had other projects. Also, he learned to play the guitar from scratch. To my surprise, it looked absolutely natural in the drama!
Keum Saerok learned playing piano for the role
Keum Saerok’s character has a calm, mature, beautiful and endearing attitude. She accepted the role after reading the script and learning about the directors involved in the drama. She too, similarly to the other two actors took the time to learn how to master the musical instruments. She had a piano tutor ready before the drama was filmed and had the greatest opportunity to learn on set, as Director Kim was also a great piano player in real life. Keum Saerok felt flustered and glad to be chased by two attractive men in the drama she said.
Soundtrack #1 is a friendship turned love story between a man and a woman. The woman was tasked to come up with song lyrics for a recording company. On the other hand, in Soundtrack #2, it is the reverse, where the music composition is the main focus. I can’t wait for the next episode when it is released!
