The successful International Tour of MAMMA MIA! has been performed in over 3,500 shows and seen by over 7 million people worldwide. With its Singapore premiere, The Fifth Parlour was there to fully immerse in the singalongs and shenanigans!

MAMMA MIA! is produced by Judy Craymer, whose ingenious vision of staging the story-telling magic of ABBA’s timeless songs with a sunny, funny tale of a mother, a daughter and three possible dads unfolding on a Greek island of Idyll. The musical was previously staged here in 2014 and 2018. It remains one of Singapore’s favourite musicals as it continues to attract audiences of all ages to return for more.

Evidently, it was a treat for the eyes and ears with the performances of ABBA’s greatest hits including Dancing Queen, Take A Chance On Me, The Winner Takes It All, Does Your Mother Know, Mamma Mia and my personal favourite, Waterloo! The audience knew what was next as they sang along to the charming story of love, laughter and friendship, also portrayed in its 2008 featured movie.

I revisited the film on Prime Video before the live show at the Sands Theatre. It was simply to reminisce the carefree yet dramatic lives of Donna Sheridan along with her best friends; Rosie and Tanya as they performed with fur skin-tight showgirl outfits for Super Trouper. It is that nuanced experience of those colourful designed Lycra outfits with shimmering rhinestones under a dreamy night sky on stage, as it changes beautifully between scenes. Stay tuned, especially for the epic and colourful final performance for MAMMA MIA!.

I would certainly watch the musical once again one day, perhaps in a different language in another city. It is an evergreen timeless classic for the young and at the young at heart!
