Gearing up for our nation’s birthday on August 9, we usually see eateries coming up with localised flavour. Halal pizza chain Canadian 2 For 1 Pizza has something for chicken rice lovers. To pay tribute to the nation’s vibrant heritage and culinary traditions, Canadian 2 For 1 Pizza presents to you Hainanese “Chicken Rice” Pizza.

When I first heard about this pizza, so many things went through my mind. Will it taste weird since the garlic chilli is really important as it will either make or break the whole chicken rice experience. I was worried too as I never tasted Hainanese Chicken Rice before. I am more of a Roasted Chicken Rice girl.

When I first received the delivery, I was so happy to see the garlic chilli dip and excited to have my first taste of Hainanese Chicken Rice on a pizza. With a Hainanese style base sauce, the pizza has marinated chicken chunks, cucumber, topped with cheese and drizzled with sweet black sauce. The pizza even has coriander leaves on it!

When I first bite into it, I am surprised that it has the Chicken rice taste. I then decided to dip it into the garlic chilli which was wow, spicy. For someone who cannot really take spicy, I did not stop myself from dipping because I just need the spicy garlic chilli for the added kick to the pizza. Otherwise, the sweet black soy sauce can get a bit too overwhelming for me. Overall, it was interesting trying out the Hainanese Chicken Rice pizza especially since it is my first time eating Hainanese Chicken Rice.
