One Last Night with A Rocket to the Moon and The Maine

One Last Night with A Rocket to the Moon

It seems like it was just yesterday, when current band member Nick Santino assembled a band of musicians in the early 2008 with the help of The Maine, prior to A Rocket to the Moon’s first major festival appearance, at The Bamboozle.

It has been an eventful and successful year for them – being signed to Fueled by Ramen, touring/performing with fellow friends like The Cab, The Summer Set, The Maine, Boys Like Girls, Hey Monday and so on, singles topping Billboard charts.

With the heaviest of hearts, they decided that this will be their final US tour/South East Asia run of shows, and they are going to call it a day. They are beyond excited to end their final US tour the same way they started, touring together with The Maine. Singapore is fortunate to be one of those stops (not together with The Maine, sadly) and tickets are heard to be selling fast, so go catch them and spend One Last Night with A Rocket to the Moon!

“This wasn’t the easiest decision for us, but we all felt like it was the right one and the right time. You guys, our fans, have supported us through everything. The good times and the bad. We owe you the world and words simply cannot begin to describe the amount of gratitude and love we have for each and every one of you.

We ask that you come see us this summer, share some stories, laugh, sing and cry with us. For every ticket stub you’ve collected, record you purchased or T-shirt you picked up at a show, just know it has not gone unnoticed. We hope our music has been able to help you see the light in the darkest of times and has left a lasting impression in your hearts as you have done in ours. We love you with all of our hearts.

Thank you for staying on our side. Lets go out the way we came in, surrounded by loved ones and friends, doing what we love. Here’s to the future. Stay Wild & Free.”

The Maine

Signed to fearless records, just like their good friends from A Rocket to the Moon, they had Billboard chart topping singles, Billboard chart topping albums, toured with fellow good friends like We The King, Good Charlotte, Boys Like Girls, The Academy Is…, The Cab, There For Tomorrow, and so on. With growing fan base over the years, The Maine have performed tours like the Vans Warped Tour, and even had their own headlining tours.

Just not too long ago, the band released their fourth album Forever Halloween on June 4, 2013. Happy was the first single, followed by Love and Drugs. The third single These Four Words, is what frontman John O’Callaghan is calling the “most revealing song [he] has ever written”.

Sadly, A Rocket to the Moon and The Maine wouldn’t be touring together for this Singapore stop! However, the both of them will still be gracing our shores, both on different dates. Those catching A Rocket to the Moon, you may want to consider having a fun night going crazy with The Maine too!

Local Edition: Electrico

Electrico: Local heroes.

The Fifth Parlour was given the honour of interviewing our very own local band, Electrico. Formed in 1996, the band began as a five-piece but is now currently a three-piece and stronger as a band than ever.

When asked what the major difference was between now and then, they felt that there’s better communication and their chemistry have solidified. David, Desmond, and William admit that there’s more freedom in songwriting and easier to bounce ideas off of each other. And as a band, they have learnt that they can agree to disagree.

It’s been a while since we saw Electrico doing the music rounds at our local music festivals.  They managed to travel and tour around the world (Australia, Phillippines, Thailand, Taiwan, Malaysia, and Indonesia) right before taking a short break within the past five years. Doing what Desmond calls “the Singapore life”, the break saw the guys building a family, career changes, and getting in touch with themselves. Dave admitted that he needed the last three years to regroup and regain himself.

With the struggles that we know local bands face, Electrico of course piqued our curiosity as to what is their winning formula to be able to stay in the music industry all this while?

The guys stated it matter-of-factly that there are no secret formulas. Good ol’ hardwork and passion. Desmond and Dave mentioned that when you are passionate about what you do, it will show in everything that you do and the audience will be able to see, and feel it.

Listing alternative, classical jazz, soul and pop as their main musical influences, their taste in music spreads right across the board. Just like us, Electrico are music lovers. Their main influences that they could recall off the top of their heads are Nirvana, The Beatles, Radiohead, Oasis, Coldplay, Blur, Led Zeppelin and a handful more of Britpop bands.

So as music lovers, there is no doubt that when they are not singing into a real microphone, a shampoo bottle and the acoustics in a bathroom might be their next best alternative. Dave reluctantly admitted that recently he have been belting Bruno Mars’ Locked Out Of Heaven while in the shower. Great choice Dave! 😉

One random fact about each of the guys:

Dave: He loves cats.

William: He absolutely loves traveling and would love to go to the UK one fine day.

Desmond: He is a sneakers freak. To him, his sneakers are equivalent to ladies’ leather designer handbags.

The guys are also not stingy when asked what advise do they have for budding local music. They strongly believe in the following:

a)      Keep the passion,

b)      Hardwork,

c)       Keep an open mind as cricism is not always a bad thing,

d)      Learn and do not be complacent,

e)      And if they can, tour even if you lose money. The experience gained would be priceless.

With the ever-changing landscape in the music industry, the guys felt that releasing an album is not exactly a necessity. There are better means of reaching out to the masses and to their fans. They are planning to release a single soon, an EP or digital release by the end of 2013. We are definitely looking forward to that!

The Fifth Parlour would like to thank Electrico and their management for this opportunity.

Nail Art Supplies: Born Pretty Store

As a nail art fanatic, other than painting plain manicures or even doing detailed nail art, there are many accessories which we can explore in doing our nails. These include studs, rhinestones, velvet flock powder (I bet many of you know about this), caviar beads… and the list goes on.

Well guess what? A website that sells all these items… are ZERO international shipping rate? Wait, who?! Born Pretty Store!

Now, the first time I came across their website was probably due to a nail art artist recommending it on their account or blog, which I can’t remember, but I have to be grateful to her. Knowing the existence of this website is just bliss!

They have recently revamped their website so it’s so much more user-friendly! 😉 Under nail art accessories alone, they have so many categories such as glitter, stickers, and rhinestones of various shapes.

Many nail art artistes go to this site to purchase nail art supplies which includes a huge (by huge I mean a myriad of products to choose from) variety of accessories, they also sell nail art equipment. You name it, they have it! A portable dryer, UV curing light for gel nails, wow I have so much to list!

And most importantly, the prices are low! And really affordable!

They always have sales as and when as well, where stamping plates can all the way down to just USD 99 cents! Amazing huh?

Other than nail art supplies, they have items such as stationeries, jewellery, cell phone covers.

Anyway just a heads up, they recently launched their holographic polish collection! You can get them all (12 colours in total) at ONLY USD $77! Hurry up and get yours now!

Here is just an introduction to the website. You should really check out the website during your free time! There is so much to explore!

Just one minus point is that it takes 2 weeks to reach, which is kind of long but I can perfectly understand since it is from abroad. Only wish that we can get our products in a week.

That’s all for now! If you get anything off the website, let us know by commenting or tweeting us.

Big hugs!
